Released in 1993 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Shadowrun is a unique cyberpunk RPG that blends science fiction with noir elements, setting itself apart from most 16-bit titles of its time. Developed by Beam Software and published by Data East, the game adapts the Shadowrun tabletop universe into a gritty, action-oriented experience.
One of the standout features of the SNES version is its atmospheric soundtrack, composed by Marshall Parker. The track Morgue, what we have here, plays early in the game and sets the tone perfectly: moody, tense, and slightly surreal — just like the world Jake Armitage wakes up to after being gunned down.
Morgue is a great example of how the SNES sound chip was pushed to its limits to evoke emotion and world-building. It’s a short track, but one that sticks with you.
